  • ·         The basic areas of fundamental research:


    - phase equilibria in the systems based on rare metal compounds (oxides, oxalates, acetates, arsenates, sulfates, etc.) including those containing water;
    - synthesis of new chemical compounds based on rare metals, which show promise for fabrication of novel inorganic materials;
    - the ionic state of metals in solutions;
    - peculiarities of the crystal structure, thermal, electric, electrode, magnetic, catalytic and other properties of novel compounds having transition metals in variable degrees of oxidation;
    - establishment of the correlation between chemical composition, structure, chemical bonding, electronic configuration of transition metals and properties in order to develop the concepts about localized and collective behavior of electrons in solids;



    • The basic areas of applied research:



    - elaboration of unconventional methods of ultra-high pressure synthesis of solid-phase compounds of various morphology, salt and aqueous salt systems including those in the form of nanotubes, nanowhiskers, nanofibers and nanostripes;
    - development of novel technologies for environment rehabilitation, in particular, for removal of heavy nonferrous metals from industrial wastewater;
    - development of highly sensitive electrodes for control over heavy metal ion content in solutions.


    ·         Hydrochemistry of Solid State


    The main fundamental problem is development of scientific principles and efficient processes of formation of solid oxide compounds in aqueous and aqueous-organic media.


    The practical goal is synthesis of novel polyfunctional nano-sized materials and nano-composites based on d-element oxides.
